Steel Continue Positive Community Impact in Second Season
Chippewa Falls, WI- In just their second season in the Chippewa Valley the Chippewa Steel continue to find ways to support local organizations and non-profits.
The Steel made over 100 community appearances, which included Steel players and front office. Among the appearances were schools, daycares, youth hockey practices, learn to skate programs, trips to the Chippewa Falls Boys and Girls Club, and appearances at local businesses and their events. The Steel also assisted numerous area non-profits by providing free donation bags to be used in raffles.
In partnership with Charter Bank, for every save made by Steel goalies at home during the season, $1 was donated to the Open Door Clinic of Chippewa Falls. During select home games, fans competed in the Northwestern Bank Puck Shoot Promotion. A donation was made to the Family Resource Center during those select nights.
Additionally, two specialty jerseys were auctioned off to benefit people in Western Wisconsin. In October, Hockey Fights Cancer Night presented by Prevea Health, raised much-needed funds for a mobile mammography unit. In February, the Steel partnered with Marshfield Clinic Health System for Superhero Night. The game-worn superhero jerseys were auctioned off to benefit C.L.I.M.B. (Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery), a program that helps kids find the courage to deal with cancer in their families.
In conjunction with Scheels, the Chuck-A-Puck Promotion raised funds for Chippewa Youth Hockey Association. Chippewa Falls Kiwanis Club partnered with Steel hockey to provide free tickets for all kids and winter hats for fans at the November 30th home game. On December 14th, the team held its annual Teddy Bear Toss Night, sponsored by Sports Talk 105.1. Hundreds of stuffed animals were donated to the Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley.
In total, during the 2019-2020 season, over $15,000 was raised for local organizations through various partnerships.
“It’s very important to be active in our community and partner with businesses to give back in a multitude of ways,” said Jake Serwe, business manager of The Chippewa Steel hockey team. “We’re thankful for the support our community shows our team and we will continue to find ways to support them as much as possible.”
