The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Spencer Cox has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Long Island University.

The 6’0/185 lbs. native of Powell, Ohio has played in 23 games for the Steel during the 20-21 season so far, recording 13 points.

Cox appeared in 6 games in the USHL with the Fargo Force and Omaha Lancers over the last few seasons. He previously played with Culver Military Academy Prep from 2016-2020.

“ I am beyond excited for this opportunity to study and play hockey at Long Island University. Thank you to my teammates for pushing me every single day to be better. Coach Foguth, Coach Graaskamp, and Coach Murphy have helped me develop in so many ways since I arrived in Chippewa. I also want to thank my family for everything they have done for me so I could achieve this opportunity and thank my host families for welcoming me to Chippewa with open arms (Kinderman’s and Seubert’s),” stated Spencer Cox.

He has worked hard every day since arriving in Chippewa to achieve his goal of committing to a Division 1 hockey program. Long Island University is getting a great player and teammate, we look forward to watching him at the next level,” stated Steel Head Coach Carter Foguth.
