Steel Fall 6-3
(Chippewa Falls, WI)- Wrapping up the weekend with Saturday night hockey, the Steel hosted Janesville again, this time for jersey auction night.
Tonight, the Jets scored the first goal just two minutes into the game. Shortly after, Liam Hansson passed a puck in the slot to Brock Baker who answered with a bullet over the shoulder of Jets goaltender Owen Millward tying the score at 1-1. Late in the period Janesville would score to take the lead back and carry it into the intermission.
In the second the Jets Middleton tallied his third of the night before heavy hits were thrown. A big hit by Spencer Oyler, sparked a tussle in the corner forcing Lucken and Bartecko of the Jets, and Fenton and Oyler of the Steel to head to the locker room early. No other goals were scored in the second period leaving the Jets ahead 3-2 to enter the third period.
Just sixteen seconds into the third Ethan Benz was called for cross checking and the Jets took advantage of the powerplay opportunity by potting another past Boldt and taking a 4-2 lead early. Lots more penalties flooded the third rendering most of the period with one team skating shorthanded. Jets would score again on a five on three man advantage to increase their lead to three goals. Though the Steel would not complete the comeback Jakob Karpa would go bar down for his first junior goal with under a minute remaining. Jets would seal the victory with an empty netter shortly after.
The Steel return to the Chippewa Area Ice Arena Thursday May 13th against the Minnesota Wilderness. Limited tickets are available at chippewasteelhockey.com.
