Meet Connor Zilisch
Like many other Steel players, Connor Zilisch’s hockey journey starts when he was just 4 years old. Zilisch is originally from Appleton, WI where he started his journey playing youth hockey. In his freshman year of high school, he played AAA hockey for the Northeast Wisconsin Junior Gamblers. He played high school hockey for 3 years, played for Team Wisconsin 15s prep team, and then went on to 18s. At the NIT Senior Class tournament, he signed a tender with the Coulee Region Chill where he played last year before coming to the Steel.
Looking into the future Zilisch hopes to pursue playing college hockey while majoring in computer science and is hoping for some offers from schools this year. He said that he would love to play professionally if that worked out but he’s ready with his backup plan. When asked about what he’s excited about for the season he said, “It’s a whole new season, new experiences, and new coaching”.
We asked Connor about what a typical day for him looks like. He wakes up about 9:00 a.m. has breakfast and heads to the rink. They will watch film, then have a pre-practice meeting, practice, workouts, and then head home. With as many games as a hockey season entails it is important to stay in shape, Zilisch said, “The main thing is staying healthy, drinking lots of water, stretching, it’s the little things. Nutrition is the biggest thing”.
One thing Connor thought Steel fans should know about him is that he is a big fan of boy bands. He has even been to a One Direction concert. Of course, we had to get to know more about Connor, so we asked him some fun ‘This or That’ questions.
