Steel Suffer Loss to the Jets
After 3 periods of tough play, the Steel was not able to top the 2nd ranked Janesville Jets.
The Jets did not waste time and put a goal in the net within a minute of puck drop. Matt Hanewall got the goal with an assist from Nicholas Nardella. The Steel tied up the game with a goal from Matt Clark assisted by Killian Kiecker-Olson. The Jets Hanewall got another goal with an assist from Nardella.
Just over a minute into the 2nd period, the Jets took the lead with a goal from Nardella assisted by Sean Driscoll. The Steel fought back and got a goal from Dylan Moulton with assists from Austin Mikesch and Camden Thiesing.
Down by just one goal to start the 3rd period, the Steel came out strong. Jacob Dirks closed the gap to bring the game to a 3-3 tie. Dirks’goal was assisted by Kiecker-Olson and Connor Szmul. An unassisted goal from Nardella gave the Jets the lead. With just over a minute left the Steel pull goalie, Josh Langford for one last shot to tie up the game but, fall short.
For the Steel Jackson Bernard started in goal and saved 9 of 11 shots before Josh Langford went in. Langford had 20 out of 22 saves. Cole Brady was in goal for the Jets with 36 out of 39 saves.
The Steel are back tomorrow night to take on the Jets for Youth Hockey Night presented by Play It Again Sports. Youth players who wear their jersey to the game will get in for $5. Fans can get their tickets online at chippewasteelhockey.com or by calling the office at 715-861-2131.
