Steel Finish Weekend Series Against MN Wilderness
The Steel couldn’t top the Minnesota Wilderness this weekend. A home game Friday night that ended 2-1 and a road game Saturday night with a 3-1 loss put the Steel 0-2 on the weekend.
Friday night the Steel dominated in shots but couldn’t find the back of the net enough to edge out the Wilderness. The Steel had 41 shots on goal compared to the Wilderness’ 17. Jacob Heter of the Wilderness got their first goal of the night with assists from Oula Kuure and Dylan Johnson. Johnson got a goal of his own later in the 1st period with assists from Ahston Altmann and Kuure. Austin Mikesch got a goal for the Steel in the 2nd period with assists from Matt Clark and Kilian Kiecker-Olson. After a scoreless 3rd period, the Wilderness won 2-1.
The Wilderness came out strong again Saturday night with 2 goals in the 1st period. The first came from Nick Portz assisted by Aaron Myers and Nate Horn. The second was from Kuure assisted by Jesper Wikstrom and Gino Lucia. The Steel closed the gap by 1 goal in the 2nd period with a goal from Dylan Moulton assisted by Tomas Vochozka and Tod Philibert. The Wilderness got in another goal with just seconds left in the 3rd period, Isaac Kobienia got the goal with assists from Johnson and Altmann.
In goal for the Wilderness both nights was Ryan Fanti with 40 out of 41 saves on Friday night and 30 out of 31 saves Saturday night. Josh Langford was in goal for the Steel with 15 out of 17 saves on Friday and 23 out of 25 on Saturday.
The Steel are back at home Saturday, November 24th, the Steel will host a fundraiser following the recent tragedy in Chippewa Falls. A portion of each ticket sold will be donated to the Girl Scout Troop #3055. The Chippewa Steel along with the Chippewa Youth Hockey Association will also donate all proceeds of the Scheels Chuck-A-Puck contest which takes place during the 2ndintermission. A matching donation will be made by individual members of the Chippewa Youth Hockey Association.
