Steel Come Up Short to Jets 3-2.
Steel fell to the Jets 3-2 in the final game of the weekend series.
After a scoreless 1st period, the Steel put the first goal of the night on the board in the 2nd period. Killian-Kiecker Olson found the back of the net and was assisted by Connor Szmul and Camden Thiesing.
The Jets’ Phillip Bjorkman tied up the game midway through the 3rd period. His goal was assisted by Nicholas Nardella and Sean Driscoll. The Jets broke the tie with a goal from Matt Hanewall assisted by Nardella and Sean Driscoll. After the Steel pulled goalie Igor Samokhvalov, Hanewall got in an empty net goal with an assist from Driscoll. Huston Collins scored in the final seconds for the Steel right as the buzzer sounded. Collins goal was assisted by Chase Davidson and Isaac Moberg.
In goal tonight for the Steel was Igor Samokhvalov with 15 saves and Sam Metcalf with 29 saves.
The Steel are back in action on Thursday February 14th to take on the Kenai River Brown Bears. Fans can get tickets for the 7:30 p.m. puck drop at the door or online at chippewasteelhockey.com.
