The Chippewa Steel of the NAHL have announced the signing of Trent Burnham to a tender contract for 2019-2020 season. Trent is a Goalie with the Iowa Wild U18 team.
Trent has played in 28 games in the 2018-2019 season for the Iowa Wild U18 team recording 18 wins against only 8 losses while in net. Burnham stopped 636 of 691 shots on goal, good for a .920 save percentage. Trent also has recorded 6 shutouts on the season.
Trent has appeared in two games for the Chippewa Steel this season and back on March 22nd he recorded his first career NAHL win. The Steel trailed 4-0 after the 1st period as Burnham relieved Josh Langford. In relief, he stopped 19 shots to lead to a 5-4 comeback overtime win versus the Springfield Jr. Blues.
“Trent competes hard in net and is a great person off the ice. We’re excited to have him become a part of the Chippewa Steel,” commented Steel Interim Head Coach Carter Foguth.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders – plus or minus any trades – which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft.
The Steel return to Chippewa Area Ice Arena Saturday, April 6th at 7:10 as they take on the Minnesota Magicians for Fan Appreciation Night. Fans can get tickets online at chippewasteelhockey.com or by calling the Steel office at 715-861-2131.
