The Chippewa Steel took the ice Friday night for a post-Christmas tilt against the Minnesota Magicians. A physical and intense first period led to no goals for either team. Despite four power plays Chippewa goalie Trent Burnham held his own on the penalty kill as the Magicians were unsuccessful in their four chances on the night. The Steel went on to score one goal in the second period as well as adding two more in the third period. Minnesota saw its only goal in the third period.
In the second period, the Steel were led by a power-play goal from Jacob Dirks (14) assisted by Connor Szmul, his first of two assists on the night. Although the second period only had one goal, it was far from lacking on penalties as eight total penalties were called with four of them being roughing.
In the third, the Steel pulled away with the momentum gained by their second-period goal. Ian Famulak (4) lit the lamp first for the Steel in the third assisted by Braiden Dorfman and Luke Farthing. The Magicians answered with a goal from Chris Konin (3) assisted by Lucas Kanta. Killian Kiecker-Olson followed with the final goal of the night for the Steel (10) assisted by Jake Vaughn and Connor Szmul.
Burnham ended the night going saving 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Minnesota goalie Dysen Skinner saved 34 of 37 shots faced. The Steel hope to bring the momentum going into tomorrow night’s game against the Magicians going for a series sweep.
