Steel Beat Ice Dogs in Overtime
(Chippewa Falls, WI)- Tonight the Steel finished off the weekend series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
The first period was all Fairbanks as they controlled the pace and outshot the Steel 10-7. Fairbanks scored at 7:56 of the first period on a goal from the blue line with traffic in front of Steel goaltender Berk Berkeliev.
The Ice Dogs executed their game well again in the second, but the Steel struck back when a turnover by Fairbanks found Evan Tanos in the slot with a nice screen by Brock Baker. Liam Hansson was credited with the assist on the goal. The last five minutes was all Steel, as Fairbanks scrambled to keep the game tied.
Physicality carried over into the third with adrenaline running high for both teams looking to get two out of three games this weekend. Both goaltenders stood tall stopping quality chances in the third and keeping the game deadlocked at 1-1 to take us into overtime.
It took just 2 minutes and 10 seconds for Braden Lindstrom to light the lamp going blocker side on Ice Dogs goaltender Hargraves in overtime to give the Steel their fourth win of the season.
The Steel return to the Chippewa Area Ice Arena Wednesday the 17th against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Limited tickets are available at chippewasteelhockey.com.
