Steel set to take on Janesville
After a week at the North American Hockey League Showcase, the Steel will face off against the Janesville Jets in a home and home weekend series.
The Jets reside in the Midwest Division along with the Steel. On the young season, they sport a 2-4 record. The Jets started their season with back to back losses against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Last week at the Showcase they held off the Lone Star Brahmas recording a 2-1 win and then a secured a 3-1 win over last year’s league champion the Shreveport Mudbugs. The final 2 days of the Showcase the Jets fell to the Aberdeen Wings 4-1 and finished the Showcase with a 4-0 loss to the Bismarck Bobcats.
The Jets’ top scorer is defensemen Andrew Hicks, who leads the team with 3 goals. Forwards Erik Bargholtz, TJ Sagissor, and Brenden MacLaren all follow with 2 goals each so far on the season.
A perennial playoff contender the Jets finished 2nd in the Midwest Division and 5th overall in the league last season.
The Steel holds a 3-3 record so far this season. The Steel’s top scorers are Jordan Gonzalez, Connor Szmul, and Camden Thiesing.
Whoever wins the season series between these two Wisconsin teams will get the bragging rights of coveting the Milk Can Trophy.
