Austin Mikesch

Just before the team left for Alaska, we talked with Steel forward Austin Mikesch about his experience playing hockey and their upcoming trip to Alaska. When asked about preparing for the trip, Mikesch said, “We are getting things ready and finalized. We are all very excited and it should be a lot of fun”.

Mikesch has been off to a great start this season leading the Steel. The forward captain said that it’s been a great start with the team, “I have been fortunate to step into this role. There are challenges at times, but we have a great group of guys and I have great guys helping me lead the team”.

Mikesch is originally from the upper peninsula of Michigan, where his hockey journey began. He played 8 years on travel teams before moving to Green Bay and played 4 years of high school hockey. Last year he played his first year of juniors in Saskatchewan Canada and is now with the Steel. His favorite memory throughout his time playing hockey was winning a league championship with Saskatchewan. Looking into the future, Mikesch hopes to go on to play college hockey and get a business degree.

When he’s not on the ice, you can find him on the golf course or on a lake. During the summer, Austin loves spending time on the boat tubing, skiing, and hanging out with friends. Along with being good at hockey, he is quite the golfer too. His off-season sport is golf and he has even had two holes in one in the same round of golf.

Mikesch said the best thing about playing with the Steel has been the team, he said, “It’s fun to come to the rink every day and work”.

Come to see Austin, and the rest of the team, play on home ice Friday, October 19th for $2 beer night presented by Miller Lite.
