Steel forward Connor Szmul has made the journey to the Midwest from Castle Rock, CO to pursue his dreams of playing hockey. Szmul has played club hockey in Colorado throughout his whole youth career, last year he was with the Coulee Region Chill, and now with the Steel.
Szmul hopes to play college hockey and if that doesn’t work out, he wants to go into meteorology. Looking back on the season so far, his favorite memory has been going up to Alaska with the team. Szmul talked about why he loves being a forward, “I like to get down into the dirty areas. Being a centerman you are all over the place, and I like to cause havoc”.
We asked Connor what was one piece of advice that you would tell your younger self, “Never give up. That has gotten me through the years. Being a smaller guy people have told me that you can’t play hockey and I would just say to never give up on your dreams,” said Szmul. We asked Connor a few more questions to get to know him even better.
