Steel Open Series vs Fairbanks With 3-1 Win
Fairbanks, AK- The Chippewa Steel began their 3-game series with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs from Big Dipper Arena on Thursday evening.
The Steel were able to jump on the Ice Dogs early in the first period with a goal from Brendan Ogle at 4:08, assisted by Jacob Dirks and Grant Reichenbacher. Fairbanks countered with a goal of their own from Parker Brown. Chippewa and Fairbanks headed to the locker room after one period tied at 1.
Connor Szmul gave the Steel the lead in the second period with a goal, which was assisted by Grisha Gotovets and Chase Davidson.
With a 2-1 lead heading into the third period the Steel were looking for another insurance goal. Jacob Dirks provide the insurance goal in the third period, assisted by Brendan Ogle and Grant Reichenbacher.
In goal for the fourth straight game was Igor Samokhvalov. Igor stopped 32 of 33 shots helping lead the team to victory.
Steel continue their largest win streak in franchise history to a total of four games. The series with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs resumes on Friday evening at 10:30 CST from Big Dipper Arena.
