Steel Sweep Weekend Series vs Minnesota Wilderness

Cloquet, Minnesota- After a hard fought 3-2 victory at Chippewa Area Ice Arena on Friday night in Chippewa Falls, the Steel looked to split their season series versus the Minnesota Wilderness at two game a piece.

As of late the Steel have been able to get off to hard starts, and Saturday night was no different. Just 2 minutes and 39 seconds into the contest, Connor Szmul was able to light the lamp for Chippewa on a power play goal assisted by Dylan Moulton. The Wilderness responded with a goal of their own less than a minute later from Jack Johnson. Brendan Ogle found the opening and got the puck passed Wilderness Goalie Kaleb Johnson, giving Chippewa a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.

Midway through the second period, Minnesota was able to sneak the puck past Steel Goalie Josh Langford. Nate Horn of the Wilderness was credited with the power play goal assisted by Ondrej Trejbal and Luke Dow.

The score remained 2-2 through the end of the third period and a five minute overtime period was not enough to decide Saturday’s season finale between the two teams.

After three rounds of the shootout, Chippewa was able to get a goal from Matt Clark to earn the shootout victory on Saturday evening.

Josh Langford was solid in net for the Steel stopping 22 of 24 shots.

The Steel return to Chippewa Area Ice Arena next Friday, February 8th as they take on the Janesville Jets for $2 Beer Night presented by Miller Lite. Fans can get tickets online at chippewasteelhockey.com or by calling the Steel office at 715-861-2131.
