Steel Win 5-4 in Shootout
Janesville, WI-The Chippewa Steel and Janesville Jets took to the ice on Saturday evening for the season series finale from Janesville Ice Arena.
Janesville struck first with a power play goal from Nicholas Nardella assisted by Jordon Halverson and Brenden Olson. Olson then scored a goal of his own in the second period assisted by John Prokop to take a 2-0 advantage just 2 minutes and 37 seconds into the second period.
The Steel responded with a goal just 30 seconds later by Connor Szmul. Jacob Dirks found the back of the net 4 minutes later with his team leading 17th goal of the season tying the game at 2. Chippewa continued to pour it on Janesville in the second period with goals from Braiden Dorfman and Killian Kiecker-Olson to head into the second intermission leading 4-2.
Erik Palmqvist for the Jets was able to score a pair of goals in the third period to send the season finale to overtime.
In overtime, Janesville had a potential game-winning goal called off for goal tender interference.
After five skaters in the shootout, Camden Thiesing was able to sneak the game-winner past Cole Brady.
In goal for the Steel was Josh Langford with 34 saves. Cole Brady of the Jets was able to stop 24 shots.
