Steel Open Season With Division Win

(Janesville, WI)- The Chippewa Steel opened their second season tonight in Janesville to face in-state foe the Janesville Jets. The Steel got the scoring going early in the first period with a goal from Braden Lindstrom assisted by Grisha Gotovets and Zane Demsey. The Jets countered with a goal of their own under 2 minutes remaining in the first period to make it 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

The second period was all Chippewa on Friday evening. Jacob Dirks scored a pair of goals which both were both assisted by Killian Kiecker- Olson. Newcomer Luke Farthing also found the back of the net for his first goal of the 2019-2020 campaign. Farthing’s goal was assisted by Braden Lindstrom and Grisha Gotovets and stretched the lead to 4-1 heading into the third period.

Janesville Forward Jackson Sabo scored his second goal of the game in the third period but it wasn’t enough as Jacob Dirks capped off his night with another goal to record a hat trick on Opening Night and a 5-2 victory on the young North American Hockey League season.

In goal, Trent Burnham stopped 30 of 32 shots.

The Steel will finish the weekend series tomorrow as they host the Jets for the Home Opener. Puck drop is slated for 7:10 p.m. Fans will receive a Magnet Schedule courtesy of Coldwell Banker Holly Bowe. 2 for 1 Leinenkugel Oktoberfest will be available from 6:00 until puck drop.  Individual Adult Tickets are just $10 for adults, Ages 5-18 $6 and under 4 is free.
