CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI- The Chippewa Steel looked to rebound and split the weekend series with the Minnesota Magicians on Saturday night.
The first period belonged solely to the Chippewa Steel. The Steel grabbed their first lead of the game with a Gordon Whalen goal at 3:35, his first of the season. Shortly after, Ian Famulak was able to break through and send one past Wes Mankowski at 10:12 to push the Steel to a 2-0 advantage.
The scoring excitement continued in the second period for the Steel. Despite two scores from the Magicians, the Steel were not shaken. Luke Farthing found his spot under the crossbar at 9:09. At 19:06, Braiden Dorfman’s 8thgoal of the year found the back of the net and Ryan Kerchoff celebrated in style and added one more thirty seconds later. After two periods of play the Steel led 5-2.
Forward Jake Vaughan adds one more to the lead in the third to give the Steel their largest lead of the night of four goals. After three periods of play the Steel come out on top with a final score of 6-2. Braiden Dorfman was the top star of the game with an impressive four-point night for a goal and three assists.
The Steel will be back on the ice next Friday, December 20th, to face the Fairbanks Icedogs at 7:10pm. Friday night’s promotion is $2 Beer Night presented by Leinenkugel’s.
