RICHFIELD, MN- Steel began their season series with the Minnesota Magicians on Friday night.
Steel got on the board quickly in the first period with a tip-in goal scored by Ryan Kerchoff assisted by Gordan Whalen. The score remained at the advantage of the Steel at 1-0 to the first intermission.
The Magicians answered in the second period with a goal scored by Jimmy Doyle. Minnesota outshot Chippewa in the period 14-8 but Grant Boldt held his own in the net.
The final frame in Richfield on Friday night wasn’t kind to the Steel. Minnesota took the lead with a power-play goal scored by Robert Christy. The Magicians scored their 3rd goal just 21 seconds later to extend their lead to 3-1. Ryan Kerchoff found the back of the net for his second goal of the game with just over five minutes remaining in the game to cut the lead for Minnesota to 3-2 but Chippewa was unable to complete the comeback.
The Steel finish their weekend series with the Minnesota Magicians tomorrow at 7:10 back at Chippewa Area Ice Arena. Saturday night’s promotion is the Teddy Bear Toss presented by Sports Talk 105.1. For tickets call 715-861-2131 or visit chippewasteelhockey.com.
