CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI- The Steel prepare for another weekend at home this week. Last week they wrapped up the Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota with outstanding performances from various players on the team. On Saturday, October 5th, they take on the Anchorage Wolverines in a matchup at home. The team has been working hard on the ice at the Chippewa Area Ice Arena and off the ice at ETS Performance in Eau Claire.
SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN- The Steel finished off the showcase with one win and two losses however, they fought hard throughout all three periods. They look to bring that same hardworking effort this weekend. They pulled out a win against the Shreveport Mudbugs on Saturday and it goes without saying that the support from our valued Chippewa Steel fans kept them going through each period. Multiple Steel fans were seen sporting our signature green as they cheered from the stands and the team could not be more appreciative that they made the trip to Saturday’s game. Forward Jack Lackas started off the slew of goals for the Steel halfway through the second period. Lackas’ goal was followed by scorings from forwards Tomas Trunda and Jacob Ligi. Shreveport and Chippewa were tied halfway through the third until Ryder McIntosh found the back of the net with 13 minutes left in the game.
BAUER’S BEST- Jacob Ligi and Jack Lackas made themselves known early in the season. Both forwards made it on Bauer’s Stars of the Week in September. Ligi and Lackas lead the team in points; Ligi with 13 and Lackas with 11. Ligi and Lackas have continued to rack up points since Home Opening Weekend. They carried their efforts to the showcase and put their names on the board. Jacob Ligi accumulated a goal and 3 assists by the end of the showcase and Lackas left with a goal and an assist. You can watch both players in action on Saturday at 6PM against the Anchorage Wolverines.
