Steel Sweep Bruins in Home Series

CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI- The Chippewa Steel finished their weekend series tonight against the Austin Bruins following a physical game on Friday night. Steel forward Jackson Decker celebrated a milestone of his own as he skated in his 200thcareer junior hockey game on Saturday.

An even first period left both teams scoreless early in the game. However, the Steel were able to turn it on early in the second period with help from a Gordon Whalen goal at 4:11. An Austin powerplay goal was answered by Chippewa’s Jacob Dirks was able to find the back of the cage on a delayed Bruins penalty. Not long after, captain Isaac Moberg capitalized on the powerplay chance and put the Steel ahead 3-1 after two periods of play.

The Bruins made a statement to start the third with an early goal to cut the Steel lead to one. A few late penalties gave Austin yet another opportunity to jump ahead but the Steel held their own. Isaac Moberg made the most of two open net goals while being shorthanded late in the third. Moberg’s hat trick goals sealed the deal for the Steel as they came out on top with a final score of 5-2.

The Steel will be back in action at home next weekend, January 31stand February 1st, against the Minnesota Wilderness. Friday night’s promotion is Family Four Pack Night presented by Pepsi along with a postgame skate. On Saturday there will be a team poster giveaway presented by EO Johnson.
