CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI- The Chippewa Steel prepare for a Valentine’s Day match up with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Friday night. The last time the Steel faced off with Fairbanks was in late December which resulted in an overtime victory after Killian Kiecker-Olson’s game winning goal. This will be the Steel’s third game in four days, each time playing a different Midwest Division opponent. Following Friday’s game the Steel will travel to Janesville to face the Jets on Saturday night.
Chippewa is coming off a tough road loss on Wednesday night against the Minnesota Magicians. Steel captain Jacob Dirks continued to give the Magicians a run for their money scoring Chippewa’s only two goals of the night. These two goals add to Dirks’ total of six goals in the last four games. Dirks isn’t alone though-Grisha Gotovets also continues to make things happen on this line by contributing four assists in the last four games. On the defensive side, the Steel will look to Trent Burnham to continue protecting the cage after a big shutout victory at home last weekend.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs still hold the first-place spot in the division. The Ice Dogs are currently on a twelve-game win streak with their last loss coming from the Steel back in December. Forward Matt Koethe currently leads the Ice Dogs in overall points and has scored three goals in his last three games.
